EMAS in PONAR Wadowice S.A.

PONAR Wadowice S.A. taking exceptional care of the natural environment has implemented requirements of the 1221/2008 regulation(EMAS – Eco-Management and Audit Scheme) and has been registered in the national EMAS system. Implementation of the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) puts our company among the elite group of institutions and businesses well-recognized not only in Europe, but also globally, as a pro-ecological organization.

The Eco Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS) is the European Union instrument implemented by the European Parliament and the Council, designed to encourage various organizations (businesses, plants, institutions) to continuous improvement of the environmental activity effects, focusing on the following:

- Identifying areas, for which the effectiveness of eco-management system should be developed, corrected or improved.

- Continuous search for possibilities of reducing the impact on the environment and setting new goals within the scope of environmental protection.

- Continuous identifying and eliminating incompatibilities with internal or external requirements.

- Continuous identifying environmental aspects which require supervision or improvement

- Providing training for the personnel in order to improve effectiveness of environmental activities.

- Comparing to other businesses or institutions operating in the same industry.

EMAS is a right to use a trademark, specifying the commitment of an organization to pursue excellence. The fundamental assumption of the EMAS scheme is recognition and awarding these organizations, which voluntarily go beyond the scope of essential requirements of the law and continuously seek to achieve the best results of the carried out pro-environmental activities. Thus, implementing the EMAS scheme means joining the “elite club” of these organizations which consider the environmental issues to be as important as other elements of their activity, and are continuously striving to improve and minimize their effect on environment.

Every organization willing to be registered in EMAS needs to implement the eco-management system in compliance with the requirements of ISO 14001, publish an environmental declaration verified by an independent, accredited auditor, actively engage the employees into the process of eco-management and follow the law regulations.

The EMAS certification award ceremony took place on 19 of November, at the inauguration of the POLEKO 2012 Trade Fair in Poznan.
