Electro-discharge machining

The electro-discharge method is used for precision machining, allowing the material to be given any, even very complex, shape.

Electro-discharge machining

The EDM process is suitable for the production of elements, providing high-quality surface finish without the need for additional grinding or polishing of edges. Conductive materials such as steel, copper, aluminum, tungsten or cemented carbide are processed.

Thanks to the high cutting precision, this technology allows for the processing of even small elements without the risk of damaging their structure, and is also suitable for making precise holes, including conical ones.

Advantages of the wire EDM process:

  • ability to machine complex shapes
  • machining hard materials with very narrow tolerances (from ±0.02 to ±0.001 mm)
  • ability to machine very small elements
  • making conical holes
  • no direct contact between the tool and the material
  • surface finish without the need for further processing
  • shaping the internal profile
  • does not affect the physical properties of the processed materials
  • ability to enlarge through holes made in sintered carbide and special sinters using an electroerosion drill.

The electro-erosion drilling method is also used to make holes that cannot be made using other machining methods, or their production using another method carries the risk associated with machining. Electro-erosion makes it possible to efficiently make holes in metallic materials, including cemented carbide and special sinters.

Advantages of the electroerosion drilling process:

  • the ability to make very small holes
  • high coordinate accuracy provided by the CNC machine
  • there are no remnants of machining residues (burrs) in the holes made
  • machining of hard materials
  • no direct contact of the tool with the material
  • does not affect the physical properties of the materials being processed.
