PONAR Wadowice S.A. manufactured hydraulic control equipment for a coal charging car and a coke transfer car, which are used in coke production.
The hydraulic station along with control units is used to control the coke transfer car responsible for receiving red-hot coke.
The hydraulic power unit consists of an oil tank, pump units, valves, and additional equipment. It features two identical drive assemblies: a gear pump with a flow rate of 65 dm3/min and a 22 kW electric motor. One of the assemblies serves as a backup system and is started in the event of a main unit failure.
The control units were made in the form of desks with subplates mounted on them, equipped with WE type directional spool valves, enabling control over the direction and, in the case of proportional directional valves, the speed of movement of hydraulic actuators.
Auxiliary valves were also mounted on the subplates, i.e. pilot operated check valves, throttle check valves, pressure reducing valves, and relief valves.
An essential role in the coke production process is played by the coal charging car, for which we built a hydraulic system consisting of:
- a hydraulic power unit
- an accumulator station
- control units.
The task of the hydraulic power unit is to supply oil with appropriate pressure and flow rate parameters to other devices of the hydraulic system and actuators (hydraulic cylinders). The power unit is also responsible for maintaining the required charge level of hydraulic accumulators and powering the maneuvering movements of the actuators.
The power unit with the oil tank and components was installed directly inside a container. Two pump units with multi-piston pumps driven by electric motors were placed next to the power unit tank.
The accumulator station consists of 4 bladder accumulators with a capacity of 55 dm3 equipped with safety blocks. The accumulators function as pressurized oil storage in the system. The safety blocks, in turn, allow an individual accumulator to be isolated from the system as well as discharge the accumulators.
The control units, mounted on a supporting frame, consist of, among others:
- hydraulic manifolds/blocks
- check valves – allowing working medium flow in only one direction,
- directional control valves – controlling the direction of oil flow (the direction of movement of the actuator),
- pilot operated check valves – allowing free oil flow in one direction and automatic closure in the opposite direction, with the possibility of opening this flow via control pressure,
- throttle check valves – enabling flow rate adjustment in one direction and free flow in the opposite direction,
- pressure reducing valves – used to reduce pressure to a set value in the flow line,
- shut-off valves – designed to open or close the flow of working fluid in the hydraulic system,
- pressure relief valves – used to limit maximum pressure.
Both hydraulic stations control the operation of actuators – cylinders and hydraulic motors, which are functionally responsible for movements of:
- in the case of the coal charging car: door extractor, charge chamber cartridge seal, coal chute travel mechanisms, charge chamber bottom, stampers, frame cleaning mechanism, buffer stop, bridge, cartridge face milling machine, side platform cleaning, door cleaning mechanism, dust extraction system
- in the case of the coke transfer car: door extractor, door cleaning device, coke guide, frame cleaning device, and hood mechanism.
